INCOMING COMMANDER ANNOUNCES COMMAND TEAM

Col. Thomas Theis, NCR Commander Select announces Command Team. On 2 June 2024,  Col. Erica Williams  and Col. Rickey Franz (former CMSgt Franz) will be assuming the roles as North Central Region Vice Commanders effective 2 June 2024. Colonels Williams and Franz were selected from five applicants for the position. Col. Tom Weston will continue in his role as Region Chief of Staff.  CMSgt John Vanderhoof will be assuming the role of the Region Command NCO, succeeding CMSgt Mike Mudry, who has been in that position for the past 8 years.

Civil Air Patrol N9344L, the CAP airplane tasked to take the initial damage assessment over the World Trade Center after the  9-11 attacks, has been retired and delivered to it's new home at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio.   The aircraft was  delivered by Major General Edward Phelka, Civil Air Patrol Commander and CEO.  The full story may be found at this link:

Women of North Central Region

Members of the South Dakota Wing completed FEMA's G0361 - Flood Fight Operations class at the state emergency operations center in Pierre on February 13 and 14. The class addressed basic flood concepts, coordination with multiple agencies, flood threat analysis, expedient flood works and their monitoring, and the recovery process. The class featured a combination of lectures, discussions, activities, and exercises. Emergency managers from across the state attended.

Close to 60 South Dakota Wing members completed a productive day of training for search and rescue and aerial photography Feb 17, from mission bases in Spearfish and Sioux Falls.  

Twenty-one members of South Dakota Wing were in Pierre Feb 8 for the wing’s annual Legislative Day. The annual event elevated the visibility of Civil Air Patrol among legislators and provided CAP cadets with insight into how government works.
